Pallade Musica: Complete Cantatas of J.S. Bach

Complete Cantatas of J. S. Bach - Year 7

Performances of the complete cycle of J.S. Bach’s prodigious sacred cantatas continue! The great master’s music triumphantly resounds in an abundance of sumptuous choruses, an infinite variety of instrumental colours and unsurpassed melodic depth.

Bach always carefully chose his instruments for his cantatas, out of concern for their colour as much as for their symbolism. The violoncello piccolo is a diminutive five-stringed instrument of a higher register than the cello and possessing a brighter sound. Below its fingerboard, the viola d'amore displays a set of seven strings that are not played directly with the bow, but vibrate in sympathy with notes that are.
