On the Member Friday event of October 4, in connection with the exhibition Saints, Sinners, Lovers and Fools: Three Hundred Years of Flemish Masterworks, we’ve invited comedian Charles Beauchesne, host of the podcast Les pires moments de l’histoire, to present his show La peste noire in the Maxwell Cumming Auditorium located in the Cinéma du Musée.

Charles Beauchesne takes up the mantle of lecturer and treats you to a bold history lesson tinged with dark humour. Don’t miss this hilarious show – the perfect complement to your visit of the exhibition!

Become a Member today, and attend this event for free. Then, you can come back to the MMFA as often as you like, the whole year long! If you’re 30 or under, opt for our Avant-garde membership, starting at $35 a year.

About La peste noire

The year is 1348, a time when superstition and the sword prevail over science and reason. Medieval Europe falls prey to a terrifying sickness that wipes out close to half its population. What are the origins of this catastrophe? Who were these fateful doctors, really, with their strange bird-beak-like masks? And, what about the enigmatic flagellant religious cults preaching the end of the world? What were they about? Lastly, what drove the pope himself to hole up in a fiery room for two years?
