The MMFA will host a composer-in-residence for the first time in its history.

This residency will give you a front-row seat to the creative process behind Flore Laurentienne, a musical project developed by Mathieu David Gagnon. The musician will work in one of the galleries, surrounded by a selection of works by Jean Paul Riopelle (1923-2002) that he is particularly drawn to and which he chose for their depth and theirlandscape-like qualities.

PROGRAM

  • Observe the multi-instrumentalist’s compositional process as it unfolds, and experience captivatingly original musical performances.
  • Mark your calendars! This residency will, among other things, serve as a prelude to a Flore Laurentienne concert to be held at Bourgie Hall in spring 2024.

A performance residency organized by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

Selection of works: Mathieu David Gagnon, in collaboration with Stéphane Aquin

Public Partners: Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des arts de Montréal, Government of Quebec
