Friday March 14, 2025 from 05:00 pm

For our upcoming Member Friday, we invite you to come and immerse yourself in an atmosphere of softness and femininity. Succumb to the charm of Shaina Hayes’ folk music and let yourself be lulled by the words and gestures of poet Stéphanie Filion as she performs Leporella, whose exploration of the traces left by writing and how it inhabits space echoes the work of Joyce Wieland.

You’ll also have the chance to visit the exhibition Joyce Wieland: Heart On, attended by our knowledgeable Gallery Guides, who will be eager to share fascinating anecdotes and details about the artist. Don’t be shy to ask them your burning questions!

Spots are limited, so book your tickets soon.

Biography

Shaina Hayes
Born and raised in Shigawake in the Gaspésie region, Shaina Hayes grew up listening to singer-songwriters like Feist, Joni Mitchell and Regina Spektor, traditional country music artists like Hank Williams and Dolly Parton, and modern country stars such as Shania Twain and The Chicks. After studying agricultural sciences at McGill University, she returned to her hometown, recording and co-producing her debut album in 2022. While she still maintains her connection to farming, Shaina Hayes decided to devote herself fully to her music ahead of the release of her second album, Kindergarten Heart, released on the Bonsound label in February 2024.

Stéphanie Filion
A poet and visual artist, Stéphanie Filion is interested in the intersections between writing and materials. She weaves together words and paper to create collages, cyanotypes and zines in which the written word serves as both structure and texture.

Stéphanie Filion has an MA in literature and has been exploring desire, vulnerability, memory and everyday life through poetry, fiction and essays for over 15 years. In addition to performing and exhibiting her work in Quebec and Europe, she has collaborated with artists in the United States, establishing a dialogue between literature and the visual arts.

Leporella performance
Leporella is a poetic performance in which Stéphanie Filion strikes a dialogue between words and paper. Inscribing fragments of text on a long leporello – an accordion-like booklet whose every fold shapes its rhythm and meaning – the poet plays with the ink and the bends of the paper. Her work on the folds, which act as both constraint and unveiling, becomes a metaphor for the intimate, echoing feminine writings that transform memory and the body into a sensitive space.
