Reserved exclusively for members, this event is your chance to experience the Museum differently and discover our current exhibitions in a unique and festive atmosphere. This Member Friday will feature uummaqutik: essence of life, the highly anticipated new presentation of the MMFA’s Inuit art collection.

PROGRAM

  • Visit of uummaqutik: essence of life, Two by Two, Together and the contemporary art galleries. 

    A free audioguide will be available to enrich your visit of uummaqutik using your smartphone. 

  • Inuk artist and curator asinnajaq and Léuli Eshrāghi, Curator of Indigenous Practices at the MMFA, will provide background on this new presentation of Inuit art at 5:30 p.m.

  • Performance by Simik Komaksiutiksak and Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo.

  • Visitors can admire the new projected animation ulitsuak | marée montante | rising tide by artist Glenn Gear, which will light up the facade of the Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion starting at dusk.

  • If you’d like to treat yourself or simply browse through the books, a stop at the Boutique and Bookstore is a must! It will be open until 9 p.m. and you’ll enjoy a 15% discount.

Biographies
A native of Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, Simik Komaksiutiksak has been combining circus arts and contemporary dance since they were a teenager. In addition to pursuing a career as a choreographer, they teach dance and expressive movement to young people in various northern communities.

A dancer and choreographer for over 30 years, Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo of the Mohawk Nation of Kahnawake also serves as the artistic director of A’nó:wara Dance Theatre. Winner of the prestigious Prix de la Danse de Montréal in the “Interprète” category in 2021, she aspires to convey her community’s pride and share her territory’s stories through her work.

Reservation terms: Although reservations are not required for Member Fridays, we recommend that you book your spot online in advance. Make sure to bring your membership card, as you will need it to be admitted to the event.

Duration: Please note that the event ends at 8:30 p.m., but the exhibition will remain open until 9 p.m.
