Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal - Des pieds à la tête - Online

Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque Music

Written for Holy Week, the cycle Membra Jesu Nostri, which Dietrich Buxtehude composed in Lübeck in 1680, consists of seven short cantatas written on spiritual poems attributed to Bernard of Clairvaux, with each one serving as a meditation on the wounds on the different parts of Christ’s crucified body, from the feet to the head. Written for devotional purposes, this work is a masterpiece of Lutheran music: the voices, violins, and violas da gamba come together in a variety of ways and with an expressive intensity that are altogether unique.

DATES: Live on April 1, 7.00 p.m., and webdiffusion until April 8, 7.30 p.m.
