Schubert’s Spell series of lecture
Collegial yet solitary, tormented yet even-tempered, Franz Schubert (1797-1828) remains one of music's most phenomenal figures. Nearly two centuries after his death, this composer’s prolific output—a thousand compositions in just a few years—continues to astound with its unique melodic sense, to surprise with its daring, and to enchant with its poetic magic and atmosphere of eternity.
The aim of this series of lectures is to provide biographical, musical, literary, and socio-historical insights into Schubert’s art of the lied.
