The MMFA Foundation is thrilled to announce that the Bank of Montreal (BMO) will make a donation of $1 million towards its major fundraising campaign, The Museum Transforms Lives, in order to make the permanent collection more accessible to all audiences.
The contribution will support the Museum’s main priorities in the area of accessibility. More specifically, a portion of the donation will enable free admission to the collections and activities, such as workshops for families during March Break and the holidays, as part of the Museum’s Gift of the Holidays. BMO will also fund free admission to the Museum for families on Saturday mornings, in its program BMO Saturday Morning Family Time. This initiative gives children and their parents the chance to make discoveries and experience the wonder of the Museum together, as they explore the collections and take part in creative activities tailored to kids.
The donation will also help foster increased accessibility of the MMFA’s Inuit art collection. In November, the Museum unveiled a new presentation of this collection, ᐆᒻᒪᖁᑎᒃ uummaqutik: essence of life, conceived by Inuk artist and curator asinnajaq. Complementing the presentation, an audio tour with evocative descriptions of the presentation has been specially developed for people with visual impairments. There is also a display case featuring a rotation of works chosen by Nunavik communities, and an upcoming series of events that will promote dialogue around the works in this collection.
All of the Museum’s and Foundation’s teams are profoundly grateful for this generous contribution.
