The MMFA pays tribute to Irwin Browns
It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of philanthropist and donor Irwin Browns, who devoted his life to supporting arts and culture as well as education and health in Montreal and across Canada.
Great art lovers, Irwin Browns and his wife, Freda, donated close to 150 works to the MMFA from 1990 to the present, including prints by Rembrandt, Tissot, Toulouse-Lautrec, Chagall, Manet and many others. In 2007, the Museum organized an exhibition devoted to their collection of prints.
Over the course of his life, Mr. Browns received many awards of excellence in philanthropy. He was also a member of the Museum’s Acquisitions Committee for pre-1945 international art since 1998.
We thank him from the bottom of our hearts for his immense contribution to our Museum.
