Chiaroscuro, A New Series of Deliciously Irreverent Events at the MMFA
On Friday, October 14, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) will morph into a multisensory wonderland on three floors for its first CHIAROSCURO night. This new series of museum experiences designed for 18- to 30-year-olds casts new light on the Museum’s collection and discovery exhibitions. The cultural events, which will be presented three times a year, will offer a mix of art, cocktails, gourmet treats and performances by unique musicians in a stunning setting.
The programming for the first edition was assigned to local avant-garde artists. The mapping collective MAPP MTL will transform the galleries with spellbinding projections. The communications agency Baillat will also create an immersive environment where the attendees will be invited to colour a fluorescent mural.
From 7 p.m. to midnight, DJ The Holy’s pulsating house beats, the groovy sounds of DJ KNLO (Alaclair Ensemble), the languid melodies of electropop trio Paupière, and a fresh take on operatic arias by Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal will provide the soundtrack for this one-of-a-kind event.
Monsieur Cocktail and his army of mixologists will be manning the bar with an exclusive menu of three cocktails inspired by the concept of chiaroscuro.
Oysters from Saint-Édouard bar, delectable doughnuts from Bar à beurre, customized popcorn (flavored with truffle oil, paprika…), and irresistible Italian specialties from Traiteur Brera will also be available at the food stations at affordable prices.
Above all, it will be a great opportunity to stroll through the galleries and see the exhibitions — TOULOUSE-LAUTREC ILLUSTRATES THE BELLE ÉPOQUE, SHE PHOTOGRAPHS, JULIE FAVREAU: SHE CENTURY and THE BLACK SUN OF MELANCHOLY —, in addition to the MMFA’s collection of international contemporary art.
