The MMFA congratulates the winners of the 2020 Sobey Art Award
The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts congratulates the 25 outstanding Canadian artists who won a prestigious Sobey Art Award this year. Among them was our very own Moridja Kitenge Banza, Educational Programs Officer – Diversity and Togetherness, MMFA. In his multidisciplinary practice, the Congo-born Canadian artist explores the history, memory and identity of the places that have shaped his life.
Also among the winners were artists Manuel Mathieu and Caroline Monnet, whose works the public will be able to admire in solo exhibitions to be presented at the Museum in the coming months.
In response to the current context, the Sobey Art Foundation decided to modify its program this year and grant a $25,000 prize to each of the 25 artists named to the long list by the jury.
