Osiris was the god of vegetation and the afterlife, the archetype of the pharaoh, who was promised eternal life. He presided over the tribunal granting access to the afterlife during which the heart of a deceased individual was weighed. Osiris was linked with the sowing season and the renewal of vegetation that followed the flooding of the Nile.
