This large sake bottle is decorated with three kicking horses whose dynamic movements and careful rendering indicate that the bottle was made for a high-ranking samurai household. The sake stored in this bottle of 2 shō (3.6 litres) was poured into smaller bottles of 1 or 2 (180 or 360 millilitres) when served.
